I live and work at The Sea Ranch, California; a natural, beautiful and
inspiring community on the Northern California coast about 2 hours north of San Francisco.
As a clay handbuilder, my work is quite sculptural focusing on organic shapes with an added bit of whimsy. All pieces are one of a kind creative impressions.
My artistic training has touched many points of the compass. At a later point in my life I became seriously involved in weaving and jewelry making. I studied lost wax casting and fabrication design at San Jose State University with further emphasis on sculptural concepts in metals.
The transition to ceramics was natural. I employ slab, coil and small units of stoneware clay in the construction of my pieces, smoothed and melded on the interior only leaving the exterior to display the deep and varied textures I so admire.
The design process evolves from both firm ideas with sketches as well as vague concepts that just have to be tried. I build both sculptures and sculptural vessels that are large, exuberant, colorful and enhanced with wildly varying textures.
